" Fes to Marrakech 4 day Trip "

Day 1: Fes – Merzouga

Today we’ll drive south to Ifrane and Azrou in the Middle Atlas mountains, stopping in a cedar forest to see the Barbarian Apes in their natural habitat.  We’ll then continue on through the Tizi Ntalghamt pass to Midelt and along the magnificent Ziz Gorges carved through volcanic rock, taking in views of the Middle-Atlas plateau noticing how the scenery changes to reveal hints of the desert as you approach the city Errachidia. After lunch there we’ll continue our journey through the Ziz valley to Rissani and Merzouga, the home of your guide Youssef. Overnight in our Hotel/Riad.

Day 2: Merzouga area and the Camel trek

After breakfast we’ll start exploring the area, firstly visiting the Gnawa people – originally slaves brought from Sudan, to experience their music and lifestyle. Not far away there’s also the lake of Merzouga, with its bird populations.  Afterwards you’ll leave for Rissani – once called Sijilmassa and the meeting place for the salt caravans, coming from Timbuktu in Mali. Here you’ll walk through the souk, smelling the spices, vegetables and cloths all for local sale. After a pizza lunch in Rissani, we’ll travel back to your Riad where your camel awaits you. After a glass of mint tea, and guided by an experienced camel man, you’ll begin your camel safari exploring within the mysterious sand-sea of the Erg-Chebbi. Here you will spend your night under the stars in a traditional Berber nomad tent. Dinner will be served in the tent where you’ll spend the night.

Day 3: Merzouga – Todra Gorge – Dades Gorge

Your camel guide will wake you up early in the morning to watch sunrise. Afterwards, you’ll ride camels back to your Riad. Appreciating the unique beauty of the spectacular Erg Chebbi dunes – changing with the light as the day progresses. After breakfast in the Riad, we’ll leave for Tinghir and Todra gorges – the highest, narrowest gorges in Morocco. Here you will have the opportunity to hike along the valley and after lunch in the heart of the gorge we’ll drive through the Dades Valley, where you’ll see the majestic sand castles and the amazing rock formations known as “monkey toes”. Overnight accommodation is in local hotel.

Day 4: Dades Gorge – Ait Ben Haddou – Marrakech

After breakfast in the hotel we’ll drive through the Dades Valley towards Kalaat Mgouna and Ouarzazate. The route through Dades Valley is the way of the thousand Kasbahs – providing numerous opportunities to take some of your best photographic shots of the trip. We’ll stop at Kalaat Mgouna, “the rose city”, to purchase the rosewater, which will make your linen smell good a long time after your trip is over. Continuing to Ouarzazate, “the Hollywood of Africa” we’ll stop for lunch at the famous Ait Ben Haddou kasbah, the largest Kasbah in Morocco.
